James Hill Goats

A favorite part of my day is checking the coops to see what our hens have produced for the day.  Currently we are working on an olive egger project (Blue and Splash Ameraucana roos over Marans hens). We also have a breeding trio of Salmon Faverolles and a breeding pair of Partridge Penedesencas.

From these combinations we gather a wide range of colors from light tan to blue/green to dark reddish brown.  And the personalities of our flock are as varied as their egg color!  This is Roo Too, our Penedesenca rooster.  He is the most lively and LOUD of all our roos, and fancies himself quite the ladies man.   The hen in the pic is a Brown Leghorn, who was a "filler" chick in our hatchery shipment.  She's very taken with Roo, and helps feed his already overblown ego.
